Umer Memon is a seasoned lawyer, lifelong political activist, and a tireless advocate for democracy and social welfare. With over five decades of dedication to public service, he has played a significant role in both Pakistani and international political landscapes.
After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree, Umer Memon pursued law at the esteemed SM Law College, laying the foundation for a career rooted in justice and public advocacy. From a young age, he became actively involved in politics, joining the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), where he has served for more than 50 years. He currently holds the position of Additional General Secretary, contributing to the party’s mission of social equity and democratic reform.
Internationally, Umer Memon has made his mark as a key community leader in the UK, being actively engaged with the UK Labour Party for over 30 years. His work has centered on building bridges between diaspora communities and political institutions, championing immigrant rights, and promoting inclusive policies.
He has had the honor of collaborating with prominent political figures, including Seema Malhotra MP, with whom he has worked on various community engagement and policy dialogue initiatives. His commitment to fostering international political relationships also led him to meet former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, further strengthening his ties with influential leaders and deepening his role in global political discourse. He has also engaged with the Mayor of London and other influential voices working toward social cohesion and political empowerment.
In recognition of his extraordinary service and dedication to community development, he received an Award of Recognition for Outstanding Contribution Within the Community, presented by Councillor Afzal Kayani.
Umer Memon also serves as the General Secretary of Jalib Chair International, continuing the legacy of the renowned revolutionary poet Habib Jalib by promoting justice, resistance against oppression, and literary activism on a global scale. He is the Chairman of the ‘Pride of Democracy International’ Initiative, where he advocates for democratic values and commemorates the sacrifices made in their defence.
Beyond politics, he has dedicated more than 50 years to social work, focusing on community upliftment, education, and support for the underprivileged. His unwavering dedication to justice, equality, and public service continues to inspire and empower generations across borders.
